Philanthropy at Work for Healthcare Workers and Families in Need

hilanthropists acting through contributions to Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation are helping to support Texans in need — brave healthcare workers on the front lines of the pandemic and children whose parents are battling a grave healthcare crisis .
Annette Simmons donated $ 1 million during the holiday season to the Baylor Scott & White Health Employees 1st Emergency Assistance Fund , which supports frontline employees with meals , childcare , lodging assistance and other unique needs faced during this time . To date , the program has raised more than $ 5 million and distributed over $ 3.3 million to more than 2,000 employees in need . The Simmons ’ gift was made in honor of pioneering transplant physician Göran Klintmalm , former chief and chairman of the Baylor Scott & White Annette C . and Harold C . Mara and David Deniger also showed generous support through a $ 1 million donation in 2020 to provide funding for both the Employees 1st Emergency Assistance Fund and the Child Life program . To help young children understand difficult concepts like illness and death , the Child Life program within the Palliative Care department at Baylor Scott & White Health supports grieving families . Their Child Life specialists are trained to help families through what may be one of the most difficult experiences of their lives before , during and after a loss .
“ We are grateful to have the opportunity to help frontline workers in need and families struggling with a loss ,” noted David Deniger . “ These programs both offer compassionate care and impact lives in a meaningful way , and we are pleased to offer this support .”
These programs are just two examples of the commitment Baylor Scott & White has to patients , families and employees . For more information on how to support these impactful programs or others , please contact Susan McSherry at 214.820.3147 or Susan . McSherry @ BSWHealth . org .
