da Vinci Xi Robot

A game changer for Andrews Women ’ s Hospital

ndrews Women ’ s Hospital recently welcomed a new da Vinci Xi surgical robot to replace its existing , earlier generation da Vinci Si . By adding the most up-to-date technology to Andrew Women ’ s Hospital , more patients can benefit procedures that are less invasive than traditional or laparoscopic surgeries .
Minimally invasive surgery utilizing robotic-assisted surgical technology has become the standard of care in routine and complex surgeries . In operating rooms across the country , robotic-assisted surgeries now outpace traditional ‘ open ’ surgeries whereby the patient receives his or her care through a large incision . Advances such as docking , better visualization and multi-quadrant access mean surgeons are lining up to use this new technology at Andrews Women ’ s Hospital .
Andrea Palmer , M . D ., an OB / GYN who routinely performs robotic gynecological surgeries at Andrews Women ’ s Hospital ,
Dr . Lori Atkins performs minimally invasive surgery using the new da Vinci Xi robot .
recently shared that over half of all hysterectomies performed at the hospital are now outpatient procedures . Dr . Palmer credits this advancement in the operating room to the da Vinci robotic technology , which offers a multitude of advantages to the patient , surgeon and hospital staff .
Overall , patients experience fewer complications , decreased length of stay , lower readmission , quicker recovery times and less need for traditional pain medication
Physicians are now able to accept and handle more complex and difficult surgeries , including more advanced cancer surgeries .
Baylor Scott & White staff are inspired by this technology to learn new skills and grow to meet the needs of our patients .
Additional benefits include cost-savings and growth for the hospital .
Andrews Women ’ s Hospital is a pioneer in the field of women ’ s health surgery , specifically with the use of this game-changing piece of equipment . Thank you to each and every donor that made this possible .
