Our Outstanding Texas Nurses

Nearly half of Outstanding Nurses recognized by the Texas Nurses Association are at Baylor Scott & White .

Twelve of the Texas Nurses Association 25 Outstanding Texas Nurses are from Baylor Scott & White Health .

Kyle Carter , RN Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Hillcrest he annual Texas Nurses Association Award focuses on recognizing the contributions of registered nurses across the state , and this year , 12 of the 25 Outstanding Texas Nurses are nurses at Baylor Scott & White Health . Honorees are those who create a culture of care , play a vital role in supporting health and wellness , and serve as innovators , community contributors or frontline heroes .
“ Baylor Scott & White is home to more than 15,000 nurses who provide care across dozens of communities in North and Central Texas ,” said Pete McCanna , chief executive officer for Baylor Scott & White . “ This latest recognition reflects their unwavering dedication to our patients and builds on Baylor Scott & White ’ s legacy of excellence in nursing .”
Investing in those who give their all With servant hearts and healing touches , nurses are the heartbeat of Baylor Scott & White . Thanks to generous donor support , the System has been able to make significant investments in programs that enhance excellence , education and leadership for these caregivers .
Most recently , when the System was impacted by the nationwide nursing shortage , donors generously supported the expansion of the Nurse Residency Program . This one-year residency program , which boasts a retention rate of more than 92 %, provides new graduate nurses the opportunity to develop professionally and receive the tools , training and support needed to thrive in their careers .
“ Our aggressive snap-back plan is successfully working to rebuild our nursing workforce ,” said Janice Walker , DHA , RN , chief nursing officer for Baylor Scott & White . “ Baylor Scott & White ’ s commitment to our nurses , backed by philanthropy , has already led to a nearly 50 % reduction in the vacancy rate . By the end of this year , we will have trained approximately 1,700 new nurses — a three-fold increase from our typical graduate nurse recruitment goal of 500 per year .”
