Shaping Future Healthcare Leaders

Dr . Arroliga Named Regional Dean of Baylor College of Medicine Temple Campus
As part of our previously announced academic affiliation with Baylor College of Medicine , Alex Arroliga , MD , Baylor Scott & White ’ s chief medical officer , has been named regional dean of the campus in Temple .
Announced last November , our affiliation with Baylor College of Medicine brings together two strong institutions with a shared vision of growing the physician workforce pipeline in Texas and expanding opportunities for clinical research and innovation . Set to open in the summer of 2023 , the four-year campus will offer students an education from one of the most prominent medical schools in the country , complemented by training within our integrated healthcare System and at our nationally ranked Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple .
As he takes on this new role of shaping future healthcare leaders , Dr . Arroliga will continue serving as our chief medical officer , leading efforts to further safety and quality across our care sites .
“ Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple has been on the forefront of medical education for more than a century , and it is a tremendous honor to extend this legacy as regional dean for Baylor College of Medicine ’ s Temple campus ,” said Arroliga . “ By offering students a top-ranked medical school with training in a premier , integrated healthcare system , we are investing in the next generation of breakthrough treatments , advanced research and safe , quality care — leading to improved health outcomes across the state .”
Dr . Arroliga has long had a passion for medical education — prior to joining our System in 2006 , he spent more than a decade as a professor of medicine at the Cleveland Clinic .

Advancing Healthcare Through Data

Baylor Scott & White Health has joined Truveta — a health provider-led platform
Baylor Scott & White also recently announced it has joined 16 other health systems as members of Truveta — a health provider-led platform with a vision of “ Saving Lives with Data .”
Clinical health data is often inaccessible , fragmented and unstructured , which challenges doctors and patients to learn from data collected as part of
patient care . Truveta will deliver valuable insights from billions of clinical data points with a single search .
Representing more than 15 % of all patient care in the United States , clinical data gathered from the 17 health systems will be deidentified daily and brought together in the Truveta platform to advance patient care and accelerate development of new therapies , enabling the healthcare community to learn rapidly from each other , all while carefully protecting patient privacy .
“ Joining this collaborative will benefit the millions of Texans we serve , as it will enable us to leverage national data to advance treatments and discoveries within our communities . Medical education is core to our mission , and this collaboration will empower future clinicians and researchers by expanding access to data and knowledge ,” said Jim Hinton , Baylor Scott & White chief executive officer .
Philanthropic support is crucial to accelerating our vision of a better , healthier future for communities across Texas . For more information on how you can support efforts like these , contact Susan McSherry at 214.820.3417 or Susan . McSherry @ BSWHealth . org .
