THE MISSION TO MAKE LAW ACCESSIBLE TO ALL 1. What is LawGuide Singapore? LawGuide Singapore is a free legal information and content portal that educates and empowers consumers by making basic law-related information easier to find, understand and use – through our website, social media channels and Singapore’s first law-related chatbot. JONATHAN WONG • Jonathan is a Partner in Tito Isaac & Co LLP, a homegrown Singapore Law Practice that he has been with since 2011. • He graduated from the University of Bristol and was called to the Bar of England and Wales (Gray’s Inn) • He has worked as a Prosecutor in the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the Ministry of Manpower prior to entering private practice. Today, we are Singapore’s fastest-growing and most-followed online legal information portal and platform in terms of social media reach and engagement. With more than 27,000 Facebook followers and more than 10,000 monthly unique website visitors, LawGuide Singapore reaches an average of about 100,000 people who are looking for legal information and answers to law-related questions every week. 2. Tell us about the history of LawGuide Singapore and your motivation for creating it? From my experiences gained from 15 years of working in the legal industry, I've come to realise that access to information ultimately leads to and is essential for access to justice, and it's something that I'm now committed to fulfilling in both my personal and professional life. I've also become acutely aware that access to justice doesn’t and shouldn’t just mean improving consumers’ access to lawyers or making legal services more affordable. I saw that people need basic answers before they engage a lawyer, even from the outset of deciding whether they need one, so I decided to help them by taking complex, and often confusing, information on commonly- encountered legal issues and present them in short, simple pieces delivered in rich media form - such as animations, videos and infographics - through our website and social media channels which is where everyone’s attention is focused on in a digital first and mobile first economy. This is why with LawGuide Singapore, my team and I are on a small, personal mission to educate and empower consumers by making information on basic, but essential, areas of Singapore law easier for the public to find, understand and use – we believe that this can help provide even greater access to justice.
