Three first-year COM students were awarded the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship (MSARF) for summer 2021. They are meeting with potential mentors to talk about research projects.

Kaye Dandrea, OMS I has been assigned to the University of Chicago to conduct her research fellowship. In addition to research, it also allows for clinical experiences and mentorship. "I am so excited to have been awarded this," says Student Doctor Dandrea.

Daria Ivenitsky, OMS I will be at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. "Part of the program also includes shadowing in the anesthesia department and I will be paired with a mentor in the department as well," Student Doctor Ivenitsky explains.

Chuhao Nie, OMS I will be doing perioperative clinical research at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.

The program provides funding to support medical students to focus on anesthesiology research, training in scientific methods and techniques, and learning how to incorporate research into a medical career. The FAER Student Fellowship has been primarily an allopathic fellowship, Catherine Bixby (2018 UNE COM Grad) was the first osteopathic student to be selected by FAER for this award. Read more.
