2LT MORGAN O'LEARY, COM '22 (UNITED STATES ARMY)
I currently serve in the US Army as a 2LT officer in the medical corps. I have yet to be deployed as my training is in progress, but I have trained at Fort Sill in a direct commissioning course and will soon be training at Fort Sam Houston in a basic officer leadership course. Both of these courses will prepare my comrades and me to properly serve as licensed medical officers.
Pending completion of medical school, I will work as a military physician at a military institution or on a deployment. My service (training thus far) and experiences have shaped my life because I have grown more of a passion to serve others and now have to consider the needs of the country, and service members, before my own desires in my future plans.
In dedicating my breaks from school to training, I have grown to love the military more than I did when I joined and I look forward to serving fellow soldiers and other service members. So far, the unique opportunities the Army has provided include training as a soldier (which is REALLY cool), participating in preceptorships at the VA, and attending military conferences where I learn about the current military world and military medicine.
What I like most about serving in the military is the honor that I feel in knowing the people I am training to treat are those protecting our loved ones and fellow Americans. I also love the military atmosphere- being tough and following a regimented program with many expectations. I’d like to thank everyone for their support of military personnel- there are many sacrifices that I have already made and many that I will continue to make, just like all military personnel. Gratitude makes a huge difference in motivation when sacrifices are difficult. So thank you for your support!
