The COMmunicator 2019-20 Vol. 3 | Page 3

In my time here, I have learned so much and developed a deep appreciation for UNE COM’s culture through my interactions with the first and second year students. It is remarkable how frequently there is reference to our “COMmunity.” It is not uncommon to hear UNE COM is special, welcoming, innovative and grounded in a sentiment of care and concern for others. Our current students do a wonderful job helping to convey this sense of “COMmunity” to prospective DO Candidates during tours, interviews and any number of different recruitment programs. It is not lost on me that the way people talk about our college, and the words that our students use to describe our community, is a direct reflection of you, our Alumni. This is your legacy…. “To my college I will be loyal and strive always for its best interests and for the interests of the students who will come after me.” The environment you have helped us cultivate is a testament to your dedication to the Osteopathic Oath.

As I write this, our first year students are assuming new leadership roles on campus and are starting to hit their stride as they navigate their second semester; second years are falling deeper into their preparations for boards and anxiously anticipating their transition to rotations; third years are obtaining the necessary exposure at their clinical sites, while taking every opportunity to practice their skills; and our fourth year medical students are just a few short weeks away from Match Day.

Given the many ways in which I hope to engage with our alumni, I am mindful of the memories that connect you to UNE COM, as well as the distance at which many of you now live from campus. I want to take this opportunity to invite you to stay connected with us regardless of your location, whether it is following us on Facebook or Instagram, joining us at Speed Networking on March 28th, serving as a Mentor for one of our students or presenting at the annual Fall CME & Alumni Weekend on October 9th-11th. Please celebrate your achievements with us! Tell us about a new promotion, leadership position, personal achievement, community outreach and more by submitting to our Class Notes. If you have time and you find yourself in the area, please stop by my office and introduce yourself. I would love to hear more about you and your story.

Remember that life at UNE COM does not end when you leave; it continues, grows and thrives, and you help pave the way for the next generation of osteopathic physicians. Thank you for your extraordinary loyalty, thoughtfulness, and interest in continuing to make UNE COM such a special place.

Greetings UNE COM Alumni!

I am writing to introduce myself, express my excitement for the service I get to provide our college and offer my sincere gratitude for the experience I have had thus far. I began at UNE COM in 2017, relocating from Columbia, South Carolina where I worked primarily with undergraduate students facilitating orientation and transition programs.
