For the month of October, the OB-GYN Club, Medical Students for Choice (MSFC) and the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) co-sponsored a series of events for Womxn’s Health Month. The events aimed to increase knowledge and awareness of womxn's health.
The Menstrual Cycle Fundraiser had COM students on spin bikes raising money for Caring Unlimited, an organization helping to end domestic violence in York County, ME.
UNE COM alumna, Roberta Gebhard, DO '86, gave a wonderful lecture on the need for "Gender Equity in Medicine" and on Time's Up Healthcare, a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to raise awareness about inequity and discrimination in healthcare. Dr. Gebhard is the current president of the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) and is the founder of the Gender Equity Task Force. She is the first DO elected as president of the association.
Zach Zaniewski, COM ’20 was recently published in the book, Human: Human Voices of Tomorrow’s Doctors. His reflective essay, “My First Patient,” was written during his first year at UNE COM, prompted by COM faculty member, Jenifer Van Deusen, MEd. He writes, “Thanks for pushing us to write and be reflective through our training.”
