SECOND-YEAR COM STUDENT RECEIVES AGHE TRAVEL AWARD

Emily Tamimie, COM ‘22 has been selected by the Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) and the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) as a recipient of the James McKenney Travel Award. The award covers the cost of an annual membership, and travel expenses to attend the AGHE Annual Meeting. According to Marilyn Gugliucci, PhD, only 10 students are selected from over 104 from across the world.

There will be approximately 5,000 attendees at the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) Meeting in Austin, TX. Learn more.

UNE COM students hosted prospective students in Biddeford, as well as multiple 3rd year clinical sites, for National Osteopathic Night Out (NONO).

NONO is a casual forum for pre-meds to meet with current DO students and learn about osteopathic medical schools from an osteopathic student’s perspective.

UNE COM had approximately 20 prospective students meet up with our students at local coffee shops (or similar places like Panera, Starbucks, etc.) in September 2019.

What makes this event unique is that it allows for interested pre-med students to interact with current osteopathic students in a relaxed environment, and have their questions answered by students who are passionate about osteopathic medical education and their future careers in medicine. It is a great way for pre-medical students to connect with mentors and build relationships with those at medical schools for which they are interested in applying.

The event wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our student volunteers and UNE COM’s SOMA group.
