Welcoming a State of Emergency

Arguably, being prepared is the mantra of medical school. Students are inundated with information to prepare them to be the best physicians for their future patients. Everything from studying anatomy, biology, pharmacology, to cultural humility, emotional intelligence, leadership, the importance of words and body language. In addition to what they learn in the classroom, students embrace a number of extracurricular activities to help prepare them for residencies or a particular specialty. Out of over 40 clubs and organizations at UNE COM, one club in particular understands the need to be prepared more than any other, because in an emergency, all you can do is be prepared.

Over the past few years, the Emergency Medicine Club at UNE COM has been one of the most engaged and active groups on campus. Boasting over 50 active members, students participate in a variety of activities and trainings including firearm safety, blood donations, bystander and active shooter trainings. With emergency medicine, the energy and excitement of what students are learning is as palpable as chest compressions; which they have also run in the form of CPR trainings for the greater medical community.
