SHOUT OUT FOR THE SAAO AUCTION

The Student American Academy of Osteopathy (SAAO) holds an auction every year to help raise money for Convocation. This year the event was coordinated by first year students, ToQuynh Vu and Colby Rondeau. The auction, held in Leonard Hall, was well-attended, with students, faculty, staff, as well as special appearances by President James Herbert, and Dean Jane Carriero, DO. Some of the prizes included dinner with the Fellows, OMT by Bonnie Sendzicki, DO, golfing, gift certificates, and more. All of the items for the auction were sold, which meant that over $7,000 was raised to go towards Convocation, held in Orlando, Florida this year.

UNE COM BANDS TOGETHER FOR DENIM DAY

Medical Students for Choice, led by Kris Insardi, orchestrated a photo shoot on Wednesday, April 24th, in honor of Denim Day, a national movement where people wear denim to show their support for survivors and to raise awareness of sexual violence. Strategically staged at the heart of the student-filled Harold Alfond Center for Health Sciences, MSFC was able to educate those unfamiliar with the movement and make an impact on campus. COM students, faculty, and staff posed in front of the camera to make a statement as a community against domestic abuse. In conjunction with the photo shoot, MSFC collected donations for Caring Unlimited, a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to aid the eradication of domestic violence in Maine.

The answer to the question was summed up in an easy one-word answer on the evening of the Student Osteopathic Medical Association’s (SOMA) Dodging for Camp Sunshine Event. First and second year students participated in the event to raise money for Camp Sunshine, an organization that helps host children with terminal illnesses and their families. Organized by first-year students, Vincent Martello, and ToQuynh Vu, the winning team included Class of 2022 President, Morgan O’Leary, and her awesome posse, Renate Meckl, Bill Karalis, Dan Auger, Idan Boussani, and Evan Devanny.
