multifaceted, multimodal curriculum planned out is so important.”

COM’s partnership with NYLF has been a successful venture to introduce high school students to the osteopathic profession and continues to be of great interest to those who attend the event. For Annie, programs such as NYLF provide the opportunity “to build these relationships within our community and region in order to potentially cultivate future applicants to UNE COM.” The positive reception of the NYLF program leaves opportunity for events of a similar nature, perhaps for a different population of students. Both Annie and Jenna are working together once again to bring underrepresented minority students to campus. Jenna has been advocating to bring the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) to UNE COM, a program that aims to improve access to the health professions for students from underrepresented communities. Jenna states, “I’ve been talking with Annie about doing a DO for a Day, similar to a NYLF-type curriculum for under-represented minority students… hopefully in the spring.”

The two-day event was a harmonious embodiment of the UNE COM spirit. Every person who participated added to the complexity and significance of the whole, shaping a successful and meaningful story of intrigue, scientific mystery, and foreshadowing of events to come. The experience exposes how a myriad of moments came together to form an extraordinary event that proved how a collective endeavor can inspire youth, and fuel the Promethean spark of infinite possibilities in our students.
