RSAS POP-UP EVENTS

The COM Office of Recruitment, Student & Alumni Services, affectionately referred to as RSAS, has started to organize signature “Pop-up” events for first and second year students on campus. The purpose of the pop-up event is to provide a mental respite for students during their health break, where they can take a breather from their studies and interact with other students and the RSAS staff in a different capacity. The first Pop-Up event of the academic year occurred on Monday, August 6th. The event, “Corn on the COM” featured Corn Hole, Ladder Ball, and giant Jenga for students to try their hands at, and popsicles to sink their teeth into for a mid-day sugar kick.

HEALTH PROFESSIONS CAMP

The University of New England held its first annual Health Careers Exploration Camp organized and funded by the Maine Area Health Education Center on August 3-6, 2019. There were 26 bright and motivated high school students who attended the camp. The College of Osteopathic Medicine hosted sessions featuring OMM demos by OMM Fellows Cameron Bubar and Frank Marowitz, as well as a skills session (suturing, radiology, medical history) hosted by students Sean Bilodeau, Jessica Brancely, Kristina Carlson, Alina Cheema, Evangeline Green and Lauren Lever. On Monday afternoon, Nicholas Phillips, DO joined a session with the campers to discuss the benefits of interprofessional education. Thank you to all who helped to make this camp such a success.
