At UNE COM, Student Doctor Marcello participated in both the Learning by Living Nursing Home Immersion and the 48 Hour Hospice Home Immersion. She is also an active member of the American Geriatrics Society UNE COM Student Chapter. She will be presenting a poster at AGS on the Hospice Home Immersion Project that she participated in. She was nominated by Marilyn Gugliucci, PhD; Kathryn Brandt, DO and Ryan Smith, DO provided letters of recommendation for the award.

At the American Geriatrics Society Annual Scientific Meeting, UNE COM Students and Faculty Showcased Six Presentations. Five second-year UNE COM students, including OMS-IIs Robyn Reese, Kristin Frisby, James Koch, Sonia Marcello, and William Brown presented their research in Orlando, Florida from May 3-5, 2018.

Saving Transitional Care Program for High-Risk Veterans with CHF or COPD," and Student Doctor Frisby had two presentations, her AFAR MSTAR Fellowship poster, "Healthy Dietary Patterns and Risk of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm in the Physicians’ Health Study," and research conducted in an acute care hospice home, "Care Beyond Expectations: Medical Student 48 Hour Immersion Learning in a Hospice Home."
Student Doctor James Koch conducted research at the University of Rochester, funded by the UNE COM Peter Morgane Student Research Fellowship entitled, "Patient-Centered Outcomes in the Complete Health Improvement Program-CHIP." Student Doctors Sonia Marcello and William Brown presented their immersion research from Gosnell Memorial Hospice House entitled, "Patient-Centered Care: Medical Students Engagement Through Immersion Learning." Marilyn Gugliucci, PhD, Division of Geriatrics, presented on the 48-Hour Hospice Home Immersion research, "48-Hour Hospice Home Immersion Project: Innovative Medical Education Research."
Their research represents a collaboration between COM students, graduate students, UNE COM faculty (Dr. Tucker and Dr. Amy Davidoff) and local pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Adrian Moran. Lindsey Avery Fitzsimons presented her research at the national meeting. She is currently teaching in the Osteopathic Clinical Skills course for UNE COM students. Read article.
