Goat Milk Fudge Recipe

With the holidays fast approaching it's time to start thinking about gifts from the farm. Here is a way to combine your yummy goat milk with a holiday favorite.

1/3 c. of unsweetened cocoa powder

1 c. goat milk

2 c. sugar

1/4 c. butter

1 t. real vanilla extract

Combine the first three ingredients in a pot over medium to medium high heat. Stir to completely combine sugar and prevent burning. Heat to the soft ball stage or between 235- 240 degrees F.

Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla. Stir briskly until mixture becomes thick and glossy. Spread into a pre-greased 8x8 pan. Cut into squares when cool. Enjoy!

If you'd like to mix it up, add nuts, marshmallows, chocolate chips, or caramels after mixture is removed from heat, but before it becomes too thick.

Hot Process Goat Milk Soap

Here is another holiday gift idea that your friends and family will love!

56 oz. olive oil

10.5 oz coconut oil

18 oz frozen goat milk

9 oz. sodium hydroxide (lye)

Before beginning, put on your safety glasses, gloves and cover your nose and mouth. Have a bottle of vinegar nearby to neuralize any lye splashes. Measure all ingredients carefully! Allow no substitutions! Freezing the milk in ice cube trays makes for easier weighing.

Add the lye to the milk and stir until it is completely dissolved. The mixture will thaw quickly and look like slush.

Combine oils in a crock pot and heat just enough to melt the coconut oil. Add the milk/lye mixture to the oil and cook on low heat. Stir with a stick blender until you get a pudding like consistency. Now keep it on low heat until it reaches a gel like consistency. Some people stir during this phase, some don't. Once it's gel-like, stir for 3 to 5 minutes to help it cool a bit.

If you would like to add colors, fragrances, or additives like oatmeal, now is the time to do that.

Spoon the soap mixture into a clean, empty Pringles potato chip can. Tap the bottom to remove any air holes. Let it sit for 12 hours. Peel the can away. Cut into round bars and voila! You have lovely goat milk soap that's ready to use or give away as gifts.
