Transformation

In every century, transformation has been essential for survival. Our ancestors survived by turning raw materials into more practical tools. For example, the first wheels were made of stone making them heavy and difficult to multiply. By the end of the 19th century, they evolved into our modern versions we use today.
Transformation didn’ t only happen in tools or devices but also in education.
Education has always been a key factor. In 3200 BC, Sumerians created a systematic educational culture through cuneiform writing, which was the first form of writing. Since then, education has undergone significant transformations. In ancient times, education was only for aristocracy, focusing on philosophy, science and physical training. During the Middle Ages, religious education dominated through madrasas and church schools emphasizing superstition.
Humanity has explored space and various planets in these 50 years and none of them would have been possible without transformations in education. Yet, there are still many kids, especially girls at school age, face inequalities and barriers to education in countries like Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia and South Sudan due to war, poverty and cultural restrictions. These examples show that despite great progress, there is still much to be overcome. We still can change the world; everything is possible with our newly developed technologies and the mind of transformation in every aspect of life.
The early modern period brought another major change: the printing press. Books became more accessible and schools more widespread. Yet, due to status and gender, many children still could not attend school. In the modern era, education has become compulsory, secular and science-based. Of course, this huge transformation didn’ t happen overnight but it took centuries. Now governments support digital learning and use of technology in schools allowing students to access information quickly. Interactive lessons and the use of artificial intelligence enhance modern education.
