Hayko Cepkin: It can serve as a guide when you are in the production stage and feeling undecided, helping you find the option you are searching for. But if you do not take what the technology offers and recreate it by adding your own effort, and instead remain stuck in the algorithms provided by the existing system, your production will inevitably be trapped in a vortex of obvious repetition.
Score: Creativity, zero. Easy solutions and sameness: one.
Yağmur Öztürk: Artificial intelligence can currently perform many of the things a human can do much faster, which is why it has recently begun to be used in many professional fields. Especially with AI now producing compositions in the field of music, how do you think this will affect or has already affected areas such as learning to play an instrument and receiving music education?
Hayko Cepkin: When humanity dulls and loses all the abilities it no longer feels the need for, it will find itself at the bottom of a deep well. How people climb out of that abyss will be the problem of that era.
Yağmur Öztürk: As a musician who has been in this industry for so many years, who brought a music style, show, and stage presence that were unconventional for their time, and who also played a major role in Turkey’ s more open and accepting approach toward this genre of music, when you compare the years when you first began performing on stage with today; How do you think your listeners’/ audience’ s expectations of you and your work have changed?
Hayko Cepkin: I have three generations who grew up walking alongside me, and I’ ve somehow managed to enter the sphere of interest of a fourth generation as well. Our unconventional stage, music, and visual identity have been a driving force in this. I believe the greatest expectation of the audience and listeners who walk this path with me is loyalty. And by now, that has become a mutual expectation.
Yağmur Öztürk: Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us and for your thoughtful answers. In an era where artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly dominant, and the future feels more uncertain with each passing day, hearing these insights from someone who has been deeply involved in music for many years was truly educational and guiding. See you again on days when music is created with effort, shaped by soul, and valued for its authenticity.
