TED ÇORUM COLLEGE / 8-A Minimising Global Warming Effects by Replanning Cities Kerem YALÇIN Global warming affects the sun rays and the temperature of the Earth increases dramatically every year. Global warming is not a natural disaster and we, the human race, cause it. Fossil fuels, unfiltered factory chimneys, greenhouse gas emissions and even deodorants increase the effects of global warming and it becomes uncontrollable day by day. However, we can put an end to this by replanning our cities and changing our transportation habits. First of all, we can expand wastewater treatment plants in the cities. We can reduce household wastes and we can build biogas plants in which we can obtain energy form mixture of biogas, carbon dioxide and methane to produce electricity and heat resource. It is an alternative and renewable energy resource produced by organic wastes. Biogas plants dispose waste of animal and agricultural farms and convert it to energy which increases its importance among alternative energy resources. Second, we should also change the way we transport. It is not enough to leave our personal cars and use public transportation vehicles such as buses, trams and ferries. It may reduce the amount of emission rate but, it would be still so high. People in the cities should use sustainable resources instead of fossil fuels for a sustainable life in the future. Electric cars, hybrid and CNG fuel technologies and innovative engine systems should be used more. All in all, global warming affects our world negatively more than anything now but, we can reverse this by making simple changes in our cities and the way we travel around. We need to remember that we do not own this world and we should not act against the mother nature.
