Innovation’ s Superiority

I think that innovation is a word that some may misunderstand. It is sometimes used as what some people call a“ buzzword,” a term used for words that seem smart and elegant but do not fit into the actual context in which they are used. I think innovation( in some ways) fits this term. Some might perceive it as just another word for“ invention” or a general term for creative things, causing them to ignore the actual definition of the word. Innovation means to improve upon and add to inventions that already exist. A good example is smartphones. Phones have existed for a long time, but they were very simple, stationary, and obviously only able to make phone calls. Today, phoning someone has become a secondary objective of smartphones. They can send text messages, run programs and applications, access the internet, and so on … That is innovation. In the world we live in today, innovation matters much more than invention.
Thomas Edison is often credited and praised as a genius for the invention of the light bulb; however, Thomas was nothing but an innovator. The first semi-successful attempt at making a light bulb was made by Humphry Davy. Edison only innovated the idea to make it more reliable. This is a great example of why innovation is superior to invention. Innovation makes the world we live in today; therefore, inventions would have served no purpose without it. The first car ever made was probably not of much use for its time since it was just a steam-powered wagon designed to carry cannons. But through thousands of innovations, motor transport has become essential to our everyday lives.
Innovation is what makes people successful in today’ s world since there is really not much left to invent. Finding a problem and creating a business around that problem is entirely reliant on innovations that have not been tried yet. Younger and more creative generations are more likely to find ways to make something better quicker than anyone else, thus making them responsible for making our future safer and brighter than ever before. However, they cannot achieve this without being innovative. Innovation is what builds today and tomorrow, no matter how much the word may be used wrongly.
