Technology: Bright or Blight?
Baran AVCI
Technology has become an important part of our lives, but everyone has a question on their mind:“ Is it an advantage or a disadvantage?” If we want to answer this question logically, we need to review it from different angles.
In terms of communication, technology has made it easier to stay connected with our relatives, even if there is a large distance between us, we can instantly text them, call them and keep in touch with them. Along with the advantages of communicating using technology, there are disadvantages, like sharing personal information without even knowing, getting minor injuries from constantly texting, and getting back pain because of the poor posture we perform called“ Text neck” or“ smartphone posture”.
When it comes to work, technology has improved productivity. Cloud computing, project management programmes, and virtual meetings have made our work life very easy. But there are disadvantages too, for example remote working reduces socialization, and this can lead to depression and mental problems.
In the health sector, technology offers both pros and cons. On the positive side, medical technology has been improved, leading to more accurate results from the tests and better treatment. On the other hand, constantly using digital devices has raised concerns about physical and mental health, such as eye strain, sleep disturbances, and social isolation.
When it comes to Artificial Intelligence, most people do not like the rapid development of AI, but it has useful functions like eliminating dangerous jobs and taking over the tasks such as mining, firefighting and military operations. Unfortunately, with artificial intelligence people started to lose their jobs due to automation.
In conclusion, technology brings both benefits and hard challenges. It improves communication, productivity, and healthcare, but also raises concerns like privacy issues, social isolation, and job losses due to automation. While AI can help with dangerous tasks, it can also lead to unemployment. The key to benefiting from technology is to learn to manage its effects and use it carefully.
