Definition of Innovation
Çağan MERCAN
Without a doubt, innovation has many meanings, but the frequently acknowledged definition of innovation is“ The process of bringing about new ideas, methods, products, services, or solutions that have a significant positive impact and value. One could argue that if you don’ t commercialize the invention, it doesn’ t have a meaning. Yes, that is true. Nonetheless, it’ s not really realistic for someone to invent something and not commercialize it. There are countless reasons to do so.
Whether the stone is minor or grand, the key point is that it unlocks a door that has not been opened before, it gives meaning to a riddle. It is not the mystery itself that gives meaning to the riddle, but the struggle to answer it. Once solved, like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, the meaning transforms into a block. In this context, there is a saying that comes to mind that sends chills down the spine;“ Nanos Gigantum Humeris Insidentes”.
Throughout history, we as humans have witnessed Creative Destruction. Let us offer an example; when Edison invented the Electric Light Bulb, he almost economically destroyed Rockefeller’ s oil lamp industry. Innovating something may not always cause destruction, but it often has throughout history. There are numerous examples in terms of creative destruction. We chose not to list them all for you, dearest, gentlest reader.
I believe that countries that are non-innovative or what one may call rigid-minded are destined to collapse. Indisputably it’ s a magnificently debatable topic. Furthermore, if a country can’ t handle innovation, it will eventually collapse. One could also argue that rigid-minded emperors may block innovations or technologies, because they perceive them as threats to their power.
