Innovation Journey

Ela Kayra GÖK

Why does humanity progress? Is it the desire for knowledge or the spark of innovation that drives human advancement? This ancient question has occupied philosophers, scientists, and thinkers since the dawn of civilization. First, we need to understand what innovation is. Innovation is the creation and application of a new or better idea, product, process, or behavior. It involves developing different novel ideas and putting them into practice. It is the generation of new and unique ideas.

The driving force behind progress is both our desire to reach infinite knowledge and our longing to question the existing order and sail toward new horizons. Without innovation, nothing new would happen from the very basic inventions to recent advanced tecnnologies such as the prototype of a spacecraft designed for a journey to Mars and without something new, there is no progress. If a society is making no progress, it means it is deprived of both of these driving forces. Innovation is one of the fundamental reasons for existence. When change is perceived as questioning the status quo, people may resist it.
Innovation requires a culture that encourages risk-taking, experimentation, and learning from mistakes. Dealing with this resistance can sometimes be challenging. Although innovation may lead to unwanted situations and painful processes, change is inevitable. Factors that drive innovation include unexpected failures, unforeseen events, conflicts, process requirements, changes in the local and socio-economic environment, socio-cultural shifts, changes in perception, and knowledge acquired. Through innovation, solutions to societal problems can be developed, and by prioritizing ethical values, we can contribute to the creation of a fairer and more responsible society.
In conclusion, through innovation, innovative ideas can be generated and turned into reality. Societies can continuously improve themselves and become more open to new developments thanks to innovation. To achieve this, being open to innovation, not fearing change, and educating ourselves in this direction are crucially important.
