AI and Art: A Complex Situation

Recently, there have been many innovations in AI generated art. A lot of companies with significant influence in the art and design industry, as well as some high-tech companies, are adopting these new tools. For example, Adobe has released Adobe Firefly, an AI art tool that can generate art from a given prompt, extend a video, and it will soon include a video creation feature. This tool provides great opportunities for entrepreneurs, business owners, or people who have creative needs in their own fields.
The concept of having a bot create art has sparked some debate among companies that actively support AI art. Artists now fear that AI will replace their jobs, and media companies’ policies contribute to this anxiety. Meta, the company that controls famous social media apps like Instagram, Facebook, and many others, intends to use real pictures and human-made art to train its AI. This has sparked many concerns among artists, as their work could soon be used to feed an AI bot, making the act of creating art seem less valuable— since a robot would be able to produce similar pieces in the future. However, this will not necessarily replace human-made art with AI-generated art entirely. Imagine that you are an artist, spending hours working hard to improve your skills and build a community, only to have your art fed into an AI system. How would you feel? It should not be that easy.
It is great to embrace all the practical benefits of AI in today’ s world, but it may be a good idea to set boundaries for AI so as not to undermine human emotions such as dedication and effort. There must be a balance between taking advantage of technology and replacing human effort and attention. Consequently, while the rise of AI in art creation raises valid concerns among artists about job security and the value of human craftsmanship, it is important to recognize that technology will likely enhance rather than entirely replace the creative process. Human artists bring unique perspectives, emotions, and experiences to their work, no matter how advanced AI becomes.
