Kind Goddess Hestia

Defne Karakaya

As an individual interested in Greek mythology , I can say that I find inspiration in the goddess Hestia . She is known as the kindest Goddess on Olympus , the home of the Greek gods , and is the goddess of the civic hearth . According to myth , Hestia is the first child of Kronos , making her the eldest deity . Like the light and warmth at home , she is the reason for the relationships among humans .
Hestia was one of the twelve gods who ruled the world , but she wanted to give her place to another god and helped the gods behind the scenes . After all , she was still the person who united the gods on Olympus . To me , Hestia holds as much significance as the most well-known gods and heroes , as she teaches us the virtue of self-sacrifice for the greater good .
Meanwhile , something makes her different from the other gods : she doesn ’ t have any temple , yet all the houses and hearths are under her authority . She protects all families and keeps them safe , even though no one prays to her . Hestia ’ s hearth is like a safe place that makes enemies stop fighting and brings peace . That is why I want to be a person like Hestia , someone who is uniting people , not separating them .
