Nature ’ s Inspiration on Inventions

Asya Gökulu

Nature is said to be a flawless example of engineering . Throughout history , nature has been the greatest source of inspiration for humans to realize their dreams and to develop . The solutions of the problems that humanity has been dealing with are hidden in nature . When we start to see and discover them , there are many sources of inspiration for us in nature . Based on this awareness , Biomimicry is inspired by nature and produced sustainable solutions in harmony with nature .
Here are some examples of the inventions produced by nature inspiration .
Microneedles : Mosquitoes are annoying but also necessary creatures that have the ability to suck our blood , sometimes without making us feel it at all . Compared to the sensation of needles , a childhood nightmare , most of us probably prefer the feeling of a mosquito bite .
Mosquitoes can do this thanks to their ability to numb the senses and dilute the blood with saliva from a sting , but the most interesting aspect of the mosquito ’ s bloodletting action is that the mosquito ’ s stinger softens near the tip . This reduces the force needed to pierce the skin . It causes less deformation and therefore less pain .
Self-Filling Water Bottles The concept and operation of self-filling water bottles are typically inspired by the Namib desert beetle . The skin of such insects contains various hydrophilic bumps that help condense water vapours , which are mainly found in the air . The condensed water droplets are then stored and rolled towards their mouths . This characteristic behaviour of the Namib desert beetle could be used to significantly solve the problem of water scarcity . Such applications are another example of biomimicry in real life .
Imitating nature to inspire creations can provide value in many ways : it can reduce carbon emissions , reduce waste , and create a more harmonious and efficient world .
