Coping with Mental Illness and Racism

Ordinary people have dealt with bullying at least once in life . However , some of the insults were directed at issues that can be fixed while others are hereditary or caused by indeterminable factors . The latter is what this essay will be focusing on . These situations are often inevitable . Instead of attempting to eliminate the source , people are forced to learn how to cope with it . Most often , this is bullying directed at either mental illness or race . of violence . The same GSU study showed that this strategy “ resulted in the victim ‘ acting like the bullies .”
In conclusion , there are various ways one can cope with harassment . However , some efficiently deal with it while others inefficiently deal with it . Therefore , it is important that victims educate themselves about resolving bullying problems .
There are various different ways of coping with these situations , some are beneficial while others damage the person or the people around them . One of the most efficient coping mechanisms is seeking social support . A study surveying 102 students published by researchers at GSU showed that “ seeking social support and advice helped [ victims ] learn different ways of addressing their bullies as well as providing them with positive feedback and support from peers and adults they trusted .” This is shown to be more effective than reporting it to a teacher or transferring responsibility to someone else . Another beneficial coping mechanism is ignorance . A victim can simply avoid bullying and reject insulting although this requires emotional courage . Externalization is also an option , though unproductive . Victims tend to become so frustrated that they release their anger and emotion onto another person or through physical means . This can hurt people not involved or result in cycles
