DO WE NEED TO TEACH THIS TO PEOPLE ?
Actually , yes . You know that nowadays we are living in a world that is technologically advanced , and because of that situation , we must get used to things that we are in , even if it can be hard sometimes .
It ’ s important to bear in mind that there are certain negative behaviors ( e . g . bullying ) we shouldn ’ t exhibit in real life , and the same is applicable for the digital world .
By educating students about digital citizenship , they will have the opportunity to develop an understanding about the following concepts : digital and information literacy , internet safety , privacy and security , cyberbullying , relationships , etiquette and communication , creative credit and copyright , and digital footprint . As a consequence , as you can see , if we transmit a good knowledge to students , they will be knowledgeable about digital citizenship and how to be a good digital citizen .
In addition to this , people in general and children in particular should be thoroughly instilled the idea that their various behaviors can have consequences , and that they should know that these consequences will be their responsibility . In other words , they need to realize that people have behaviors that can affect their lives as a result of their actions . Even a single sentence or even a word can affect them deeply , and this should not occur .
All in all , it is necessary to have knowledge about things like digital and information literacy . Everyone should learn to use social media safely , and at the same time in accordance with its intended use . So , it is of great importance to teach students how to use social media properly , how to prevent cyberbullying , to inform them about the digital footprint for a more secure and purposeful digital atmosphere , and since the people who create this environment are digital citizens , our first step should be to fix the contents so that the digital world itself will be corrected by its citizens over time …
