Digital Citizenship refers to the ability to engage positively , critically and competently in the digital environment , drawing on the skills of effective communication and creation , to practice forms of social participation that are respectful towards human rights through the responsible use of technology .
Moreover , the concept of digital citizenship was defined by the American political scientist Karen Mossberger in 2007 as “ the ability to participate in society online by being aware of the rules ”. Thus , digital citizenship includes using the Internet consciously and safely , respecting the rights of others in online environments , and reporting an unlawful incident to the relevant institutions through a complaint .
Furthermore , the basic principle in digital citizenship is that behaviors that are not done in daily life should not be done on the internet . In line with this principle , digital citizens are citizens who are not only respectful … and conscious , but also warn and encourage those around them .
