It is the unarguable truth that technology has influenced the world in a revolutionary scale and it has made our lives easier and more bearable at a certain point . It has been actively discussed whether technology is going to replace humans in particular areas and working fields and we have already started to see some examples of this case . However , have we ever taken into consideration that technology and the identity we possess on the digital platforms could potentially replace our “ traditional lives ”?
As you might have also heard , the famous online social network service “ Facebook ” has made a fresh start by renaming their brand as “ Meta ”. Mark Zuckerberg , the founder of Facebook , has made a declaration saying that the renaming was to imply that the “ name ” Meta was a better representation of what the company is working towards . 1 This makes us think , what exactly is Meta ? The new name of Facebook refers to the Metaverse which has just started to gain attention by people from all over the world . To shortly define what it is , Metaverse is a virtual-reality platform where “ digital citizens ” can have interactions with a computer-generated environment and other Internet users . 2 There are several numbers of purposes for the use of Metaverse such as but not limited to work possibilities ( virtual workspaces ), entertainment ( movies , concerts ), education ( virtual universities and courses ) and gaming .
Entering this Metaverse is quite simple : you put on your VR glasses , create an avatar and instantly become a fellow citizen of the Metaverse . Once you approach this universe , it fundamentally offers you a new place in which you can entertain your daily routines in the digital world instead of the physical world . You
