Metaverse

Nowadays we hear the word “ Metaverse ” everywhere , but a lot of people don ’ t know what it means . Really , what does the term “ Metaverse ” mean ? The first time we read about it was in 1992 in the science fiction novel “ Snow Crash ” by Neal Stephenson . Nobody knew what it was and then we forgot about it .
Actually , Metaverse is a universe where the boundaries between the physical and digital worlds are removed . Basically , it is a digital universe that you have your own avatar and do anything you want with it . For example , you can join meetings with your digital avatar while lying on your sofa at your home . Think about the games you can play such as Roblox , Fortnite … They all have an avatar that they control , but I think the most important thing is you buy some items for them with real money . At this point , it ’ s no longer a game . It ’ s a digital universe . You can work in various jobs and earn money which will be the currency of that game .
The games even have their own economy , too . And these are things that we do in the real life as well . Companies which see that there ’ s future for the Metaverse started to invest in this technology . And Facebook is one of them . Actually , Facebook is the most important investor for the Metaverse . 1 / 5 of their employees are dealing with it . They are planning to invest $ 5 billion in Metaverse every year and they are collaborating with Microsoft about it . Facebook has also purchased Oculus , which produces virtual reality devices , for $ 2 billion in 2014 . Although no significant development has been achieved so far about Metaverse , land sales have started from the Metaverse and many people have become a part of this investment .
I believe that the world of Metaverse will just cause chaos . We need much more time to be a part of it because our world has prior problems to solve .
