Digital citizenship refers to the ability to regularly use information technology in an ethical , critical and safe manner . Being responsible digital citizen first requires skills such as information and communication technology literacy , online security and the ability to distinguish between private and public information . People who describe themselves as ‘ digital citizens ’ use the internet in a variety of ways , including distance learning , banking , health and shopping . Digital citizenship means using the internet consciously and safely , respecting the rights of others in online environments and reporting an illegal incident to the appropriate institutions . The basic principle of digital citizenship is that behaviours that are not practiced in daily life are not practiced online . In line with this principle , digital citizens are those who not only act respectfully and consciously , but also warn and encourage their fellow citizens . Digital citizenship was examined in 9 dimensions . These are : digital access , digital commerce , digital communication , digital literacy , digital ethics , digital law , digital rights and responsibilities , digital health and digital security .
As for whether the internet is harmful or not , the internet , the greatest product of the technological age , is now available in almost every household . The increasing use of the Internet in the world and in Turkey and the decreasing age of Internet users with each passing day bring many risks . There are both good and bad sides of internet use .
Internet is like an unlimited world in front of you . It ’ s you who should decide which door to open ; as if you have been given the key to the world . Decide which doors you want to open with that key . You can enter through useful doors , but you can also enter through bad and useless doors too . The initiative is completely in your hands .
