Digital Citizenship

Muhammed Efe ÇİMER

Digital citizenship is a term which means “ to use technology ; safely , ethically , critically and regularly ”.
A digital citizen uses technology for creating , working , sharing , socializing , investigating , playing , communicating and learning . He / she participates in social clubs or writes slogans , takes part in social moves ( e . g . Black Lives Matter ), protests ( respectfully ) and draws attention to the social problems .
There are also some platforms where you can say “ I am a digital citizen ,” because you will really be in technology . Some example platforms are Second Life ( an internet-based virtual world launched in 2003 ) and Metaverse ( a virtual universe that can be accessed with 3D augmented reality devices along with personal computers .).
More than 50 % of people in the world use internet in their life . But everyone who uses technology is not a digital citizen because everyone is not respectful to others . Sometimes you can be exposed to cyberbullying . Are you a digital citizen ?
When we look at our time , we can see that “ Generation Z ” uses technology more actively . They use technology on different platforms like “ Instagram , YouTube , and Twitter ”. People can explain their ideas on social media . They make slogans and then share them . For example , if there is injustice somewhere , you can share it everywhere . Nowadays social media affects human rights and laws .
I use social media to search for what I don ’ t know , play video games , talk with my friends and family . When I see slogans , I share it ( if it is important ). I ’ m respectful to others . “ Because your language shows who you are .” Sometimes I am exposed to cyberbullying , but I do not give any response to them , I just ban them . So , I ’ m a digital citizen .
