What is digital citizenship , and what is it about ? In the developing world we ’ ve been hearing this concept recently , let ’ s take a look at it .
By examining the words one by one we can call it “ Internet citizen ”.

That ’ s not all , in 2007 a political scientist Karen Massberger has defined it as “ Individuals with technology use skills should use this environment responsibly and with awareness of the rules ”. How about making this a little clearer ? What we call digital citizenship includes digital literacy , digital health , digital security , digital communication , digital ethics , digital laws , digital right and responsibilities , and equal digital access for all .
These are expressed as nine elements of digital citizenship ; we can briefly list the differences between a digital citizen and a normal citizen in five constituents . Digital citizens :
• are able to criticize information and communication resources .
• know the ethic conclusions of online behaviors .
• can morally make decisions online .
• don ’ t abuse the technology and
• do not harm others .
• advise the truth while communicating or cooperating in the virtual world .
Digital citizenship has many rules but the most important one is “ don ’ t do something you don ’ t do in real life ”.
