Digital Citizenship

Digital citizenship is the ability to use technology critically , ethically and appropriately whether it be for school , work or just for fun . Most of the population uses technology and media . But just like being a citizen of your local community , there are expectations and rules to obey as a digital citizen . They include everything from basics like actually learning how to use technology to important and sensitive subjects , such as hate speech and harassment . is fool-proof or not , and the laws that are supposedly protecting us from cybercrime .
The new generation is being born into a world of technology and neither we should try to avoid this nor we can . But we have to make sure that everyone is educated and aware of the pros and cons of this digital world .
Digital citizens advocate for those who have been injusticed , treat everyone with respect and don ’ t ignore cyberbullying . They are open to hearing multiple views on topics and they acknowledge not being the only one that has a say . They discourage illegal activities and report poor behaviour . They think before posting , check where the news comes from and evaluate the validity and accuracy of the post before helping it spread even more .
Even though technology makes a lot of things in our lives easier by making information more accessible , it also encourages some people to cyberbully and scam others by giving them a choice of keeping their identity a secret . This holds the victims back from reporting them , mostly because they don ’ t even know if they have the right to do it , or they will be taken seriously or not .
