The topic of “ metaverse ” has been a heated case that everyone talks about in this past year , and it is even harder to dismiss the fact that metaverse is happening and it is right around the corner . Still , everyone has the same question in their mind : “ What is metaverse ?”
Metaverse is a combination of what we have been seeing over this past decade which are lots of augmented reality as well as virtual reality all in our phones , computers , or in popular games such as Fortnite , Minecraft or Roblox . These games are not unusual to us , in fact children and teenagers can access these games wherever they want when they want to socialize or have fun . But when it comes to metaverse , we can say that it is a virtual world that you can be in with your avatar that you created for yourself . You can talk with your friends or make new friends with the online chat , and you can even make an eye contact with other avatars as if you are in real life . But it doesn ’ t only stop with fun and games , there are also online meetings or virtual conferences that can be held online just like Zoom but you are placed in a conference room with your colleague ’ s avatar rather than seeing their profile picture . However , we have avatars everywhere , in Instagram , in Fortnite or in Facebook yet metaverse makes it easier for us to just create our avatar from one place and copy it to other platforms . Even though , metaverse is a hot topic , Fortnite creator Epic Games or Meta ( Facebook )’ s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been pointing out the importance of this alternate world for the next decade ahead us . We are still not finished with the metaverse environment however there have been lots of progress on creating a “ fake but real universe .” To give an example , Mark Zuckerberg bought the company Oculus
VR that creates virtual reality headsets and in the company of Meta , one out of five employees develop metaverse and work for creating this virtual reality . Microsoft is also introducing its idea about what metaverse will look like in the future which is mostly about “ holoportation .” Their definition of “ holoportation ” is that in this fake universe created by the creators of Microsoft , users will be able to show their holographic self into the matter that they have . Basically , instead of an avatar that represents your character , your avatar is going to be justly simply you but your holographic version of it . You can also connect with other people all around the world just like in real life and see their actual faces . Microsoft ’ s new approach Microsoft Mesh is not just only about games , but it has a much broader perspective on life too . They want to use metaverse as a form of daily habits , as a workplace , as a school , or as a hospital simply as a way of living life with the full connection and relationship with other areas of life with the motto “ Here can be anywhere .” It reduces the geographical barriers in health and social services and makes it available for people .
To sum it up , metaverse is currently a trendy topic that concerns everyone around the world as it is a huge development on technology and internet era . It is a virtual universe that people do the things they do in real life but in an artificial environment . Nonetheless , metaverse and creating this universe takes time and right now it is just in its development stage . It is assured that we are going to see a lot of progress over this upcoming year as well . I believe that metaverse is the future of technology and will hold great power on upcoming years in our lives .
