Social Effects of Digital Citizenship

As we all know , we live intertwined with technology and it affects our lives in many ways both in a positive and negative way . First of all , we all have to understand what digital citizenship has its effects on us . There are two types of digital citizenship , good and bad . Good digital citizens are using technology in a beneficial and safe way . On the other hand , bad digital citizens choose cyberbullying , cybercrime and lots of things that come with bad digital citizenship . To be on the good side , we are responsible for using any digital devices on any level safely . Every single day we are getting dependent on technology more and more and it affects us in economic , social , cultural and intercultural forms . We cannot do anything without technology anymore even in our day-to-day activities ; for instance , purchasing something , researching , or simply keeping in touch with people . Cyberbullying is one of the biggest problems on the internet and it must be solved . Teachers should teach how to be a good citizen on the internet . While we ’ re teaching that , firstly we have to teach empathy because it ’ s so critical for understanding people and act appropriately . While social media is becoming popular , at the same time peer victimization is becoming popular too , and so many people cannot handle this situation . Some reliable authorities suggest us to solve this problem . For instance , Siberay mentions that parents should be made aware of cyberbullying and then children should be educated about it ( Siberay , 2020 ). An environment should be created where children should not hesitate to explain this issue to their families .
