Metaverse : Is It Really Worth The Cost ?

Have you ever thought about buying a nonexisting field for millions of dollars ? Recently , investors all around the globe purchased lands that cost a fortune from Mark Zuckerberg ’ s new virtual world Metaverse . In Zuckerberg ’ s words , it is a more immersive and embodied Internet that allows its users to do anything they can imagine such as playing , connecting with friends , shopping , creating , and even working . Although some people are thrilled to join this new digital universe and some think that the world is not ready for it , there are various upsides and downsides of Metaverse .
To begin with , there are several advantages of Metaverse . Since technology got into our lives , it became easier to communicate with people even when they are across the world . Metaverse carries this a step further . To illustrate , by using VR technology you can feel like you are with your friends when you are not . Also , you can meet new people at many parties that can be held virtually . What ’ s more , Metaverse can be a time saver which means that you can attend conferences , concerts , meetings , and even lessons in your home comfort . Besides , you can work and gain real money in this digital universe so this means that it provides job opportunities for people .
Contrary to its advantages , Metaverse has some drawbacks . To exemplify , because it ’ s a real-life game it can generate addiction , overstimulation in senses , health problems , and more . As a result , there will be a separation between people and reality . Also , it will isolate society by creating selfish and aggressive people . Moreover , social media platforms have a bad reputation due to the security and privacy issues they have . This can also be a problem regarding Metaverse . Some of the threats that immediately stand out include fraud , money laundering , child exploitation , misinformation , and cyberattacks .
All things considered , Metaverse has a variety of pros and cons for numerous reasons . From my point of view , even if it seems exciting at first , we are not ready for such a thing right now .
