The Dilemma Between The Internet And The Social Media

The concept of the Internet and the social media law are concepts that have existed since the introduction of the Internet , but recently , with the spread of the Internet , it has started to gain importance .
The states of the world have tightened their policies to control social media , especially after 2015 . Britain is preparing to enact a new social media law when a 14-year-old girl committed suicide in February 2020 after viewing videos containing violence on social media . Australia enacted its first social media law to tighten social media control after presenter Charlotte Dawson was cyber bullied and took her own life in 2014 . While everyone is taking action so slowly , regardless of the reason , China is one of the countries that censor social media the most in the world . Many applications such as Google , WhatsApp , Facebook are blocked in China . How did we get to this situation ? The internet , which was used for limited information transfer and communication at the beginning , has turned into information heaven or hell with a large number of ideas over time . It has become impossible to distinguish it today . Especially in social media , information pollution is one of the elements that needs to be discussed the most . Information spreads so fast that it can be used as a very fast and effective method to mobilize the masses . The most obvious example of this is ‘’ TheArab Spring Movement ’’ in 2011 . This quick movement can also be used by dirty hands . Like the Congress Raid in 2020 . America , the country defined as the world ’ s democracy paradise , faced a coup attempt and the most effective support for this was the Internet . As a remedy , the government decided to slow down the internet in places and cut it off in places .
When we look at all this , we can and should be afraid because the internet is not just a place designed for good things and serving only good purposes . Limiting evil is controlling platforms . Although some steps are taken in all countries legally , it is still not enough . Just as every institution shows an existence under control for the welfare of the community , rights should be given to social platforms within the limits of freedom . Otherwise , this liberated freedom will create different indignation .
