Digital Citizenship

Ülkü EVGİN

Since the information era started we saw so many changes in our lives mostly about technology . We saw all of the things that we do transported to our smart phones . Obviously , we had to adapt to those changes in a short amount of time . This technologic improvement brought new rights and responsibilities for us to be careful . The term “ Digital Citizenship ” was first identified by political scientist Karen Mossberger .
Digital Citizenship firstly requires the knowledge of using technological equipment . It also requires being aware of online security and knowing the difference between private and public information . People who identify themselves as digital citizens do their daily work on Internet like banking , health , shopping but digital citizenship is above these things . A digital citizen has to know how to use the internet consciously and safe , being aware of other peoples ’ rights in online situations and to be able to report the things that they see which are illegal .
The main principle of digital citizenship is not doing things online that we are not allowed to do in real life . With this principle , digital citizens have to encourage others to obey the rules and make them more respectful to others .
