Mya Macklin TH E TI GE R IS OUT OF THE CAGE Say hello to University of Memphis freshman Mya Macklin. Majoring in computer engineering this first year powerhouse tries to balance her school life while still being actively involved in several campus associations. She is part of multiple committees within the campus’ BSA (Black Student Association). She recently graduated from the first level of the Tiger Leadership Institute. Tiger Leadership Institute is a program designed specifically to create leaders within the University of Memphis’ student body. Mya was also recently inducted in University of Memphis’ Black Scholars Unlimited program. A prestigious organization which recognizes academic excellence through scholarships for leadership and service. In addition to her involvement in campus organizations, she is heavily involved with local community associations such as; The Heal The Hood Foundation of Memphis, a nonprofit organization that provides positive outlets for youth of all ages. A program where young adults give back through singing, dancing, art, acting, motivational speaking, screen writing and modeling. Outside of her present career goals of becoming a computer engineer, she has cast her dreams into deeper waters setting her sights on becoming a world renown entertainer and performer. She has already taken a huge step towards stardom by becoming a part of a singing group called Saniteé. She says many people compare her explosive style of dancing and looks to those of Hip-Hop artist Ciara, but Mya says she plans to make a mark of her own. 30 JAN 2015 || THECOLLEGE10.COM
