George Lucas first wanted to make a Clone Wars animated series in 2002, and Star Wars: Clone Wars was released in 2003 and 2005. He announced his idea of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Star Wars in April 2005 Celebration III. "You know we're working on a 3D then the pilot series that was on the Cartoon Network, it is likely that this project will not start for another year," said George Lucas. He attributes the success of the original Clone Wars series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars for the genesis of the project.
