Kennedy, until now co-president, becomes president of Lucasfilm within the Disney group. "The depth and experience of Lucasfilm Disney gives a chance to shine in new ways in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment and consumer products," said Lucas.
The president and CEO of Disney, Robert A. Iger confirmed that the study has already provided a new trilogy that will join the two existing and starting in 2015 with Star Wars: Episode 7, and continue with Episode 8 and Episode 9. Iger gave no dates for chapters 8 and 9, although they said that they intend to launch a new film in the series "every two or three years." Star Wars: Episode 7 is at "an early stage of their desarrolo" said Iger.
Lucas will act as consultant for the upcoming Star Wars movies and Kathleen Kennedy will be executive producer. Disney denied having plans to relaunch cinematically another product of Lucasfilm. "We love Indiana Jones," said Iger, who explained that Lucasfilm and Paramount kept that franchise agreements, which remains in effect and why Disney focused on the value of Star Wars to evaluate the purchase.
