NAT UR AL L I G HT Light is one of the most if not the most important part of your baby’s session! I ask all of my clients to have a location in mind in their home that has a good bit of natural light (at least 2 windows) for their session! Sometimes this is in front of a storm door, a bay win- dow, or in a bedroom. I’ve worked in all differnt types of places (spacious and tight!). I never use a flash, so having ample natural light streaming through your windows is what allows me to procuce soft, bright, beautiful images! Depending on the direction that your house faces, certain times of day may work better than others! If the front of your house gets a lot of natural light in the morning, then a morning session might work best! One thing to note is that we are looking for ‘indirect’ light! This means that we don’t want a window that has hot spots (those bright spots of sunlight that you see on your floor or walls through the window). When I arrive at a client’s home, I typically do a walk through of the main rooms to look for a location that has the best lighting! I usually look at the master bedroom (putting a white sheet over the bed and having all of you snuggled up together is such a lovely lifestyle shot!), the living room, the entry way, and the nursery! We’ll choose the room(s) that have the most natural light and go from there! Sometimes natural light is hard to find, and we have to get creative! For exaple, the image below was taken in a living room right in front of a bay window, because that was thebest light we could find! I love how this image turned out, and you’d never guess that we were in a tight little spot!
