TACKY SWEATERS were the rule of the day in the second-grade class of Mrs. Andrea Lessig at Yates
Primary. This was how the students celebrated the Christmas holidays.
THE SEVEN DWARFS at
Yates Primary School have
always had their Snow
White around to lean on
through the school’s existence of more than 20
years. That’s going to
change at the end of this
school year, with Principal
Carolyn Ingram announcing
her retirement. She is the
only principal the school has
ever had, and she has been
the dominant person on
campus throughout this
time. Here, Ingram is shown
in her “Snow White” costume after promising her
students she would dress up
if they sold more than
$12,000 in Yates Primary’s
fall fundraiser. She kept her
promise for all their hard
work during this year’s campaign. Director of Schools
Dr. Martin Ringstaff made
the announcement of
Ingram’s plan at a recent
school board meeting. She
is the longest continually
serving principal in the city
school system. Ringstaff
emphasized that more than
2,500 students have walked
through the doors of Yates
since Ingram first became
principal. She has more
than 40 years in education,
and was principal of the old
Blythe School for three
years, prior to taking the job
at the new Yates Primary.
