THE CLASSIC - SILVERSTONE SOUVENIR PROGRAMME 2022 | Page 82

RACE PREVIEW
Ron Maydon / Robin Ward Ginetta G4R and the Marcos 1800 GT shared by Ian Pearson and Callum Grant have beaten legions of Elans this season or – in the case of the Ginetta – been an outright class winner .
The C2 class for GTs up to 3-litres is usually a Morgan versus Austin Healey affair , but the Big Healeys will always win the battle of numbers . At least five are entered in class , led by the Doug Muirhead / Jeremy Welch example , but Welch will also help out Swedish driver Nils-Fredrik Nyblaeus . On his own , Mark Holme is well capable of outrunning the two Welch cars , though . Meanwhile , Luke Wos should be lauded for bringing a racing version of the Reliant Sabre 6 – clad in gold , no less . The 2-litre C1 class will be decided between the MGB and the Porsche 911 , but the TVR Grantura comes into play as well . The German car usually wins it , and the Guy Ziser / Oli Webb machine is certainly favourite to snatch class victory , but never underestimate the products from Abingdon and Blackpool .
As usual , the longest race of The Classic weekend will be split in two halves by a mandatory pitstop that will allow driver pairings to swap places . However , those driving solo will also have to take a stop during the ten-minute pit window halfway into the race . Often , the quicker driver of any duo will take the second stint , so the race is never run at half-distance . Towards the end , brakes will come into play , especially on a fast circuit such as Silverstone , so there is a good chance that the excitement will last right until the chequered flag has fallen .
