EKONOMİ Economics has seen another eventful year and help focus the attention of the economıcs department. This was highlighted by the economic events that were happening outside the school in Turkey and also the rest of the World. The International section of the syllabus was dramatically highlighted by the exchange rates and inflation, that have come to life in such a big and dramatic way came to life in a very big way and many students used these events as the source of their economic commentaries. The economic commentaries are part of the internal assessment that is part of the internal assessment; the students have to do for the IB Economics Diploma. The thoughts and actions were particularly highlighted in International trade. This year has to see n some of the most dramatic events unfolding in recent economic history. The question of protection or to be free has become a global issue and not an economic textbook debate. It is hoped that all these dramatic global economic events will highlight the importance and understanding of World events in the light of economic theory. The prep classes were involved in the Trade Game simulation on a Saturday morning, the complexities of the real world became more apparent to the students, and economics seemed to become more relevant and tangible to the student and not just the Dismal Science. Year 11 the students went to a water bottling plant in Erzurum, and actually saw firsthand the concept of factors of production. They were able to relate the theory they learn in the classroom, to what is actually going on in the real world. I must thank the owners for their generous help in allowing this field trip to be so successful. 72 THE CLAPPER 2018 - 2019
