Stadler says the construction cost is valued at R330-million. The civils work alone is priced at R3-million and lateral support at R4-million.“ During the bulk earthworks, 20 000m 3 of material was removed, which was all completed during the month of June, of which about 8 000m 3 was rock blasting.” Blasting had to be done particularly carefully, he says,“ with low-impact explosives and monitoring” because a Gautrain tunnel runs 72m beneath the site and the Gautrain Management Agency consequently has a servitude over the site precisely where the rock is located.
A specialist blasting company performed the blasting under the auspices of engineers, and with monitors located strategically at all points of the site to measure the impact.
Van Jaarsveld adds that the size of the site is approximately 3 800m 2 at a cost of R3 000m 2 for a total cost of R71-million. The site will be fully developed with“ a bit of a driveway”. The development consists of: »»
