The civils work alone is priced at R3-million and lateral support at R4-million . “ During the bulk earthworks , 20 000m 3 of material was removed , which was all completed during the month of June , of which about 8 000m 3 was rock blasting .” Blasting had to be done particularly carefully , he says , “ with low-impact explosives and monitoring ” because a Gautrain tunnel runs 72m beneath the site and the Gautrain Management Agency consequently has a servitude over the site precisely where the rock is located .
A specialist blasting company performed the blasting under the auspices of engineers , and with monitors located strategically at all points of the site to measure the impact .
Van Jaarsveld adds that the size of the site is approximately 3 800m 2 at a cost of R3 000m 2 for a total cost of R71-million . The site will be fully developed with “ a bit of a driveway ”. The development consists of : »»
