Tenders have been invited for construction of the
Mpumalanga International Fresh Produce Market
(MIFPM), ancillary buildings, and services in Mpumalanga.
The site is located on the R37, approximately 3km
outside Mbombela, opposite Riverside Shopping Mall on
the northern side. The estimated value is approximately
R1.3-billion.
MEGA envisages the creation of a modern fresh-produce
market, the MIFPM in Mbombela. This will improve
food security, create jobs, and develop the nutrition
of underprivileged communities. By linking small-scale
black farmers with international, regional, and local
buyers, MEGA will also help to drive economic growth at
provincial and national levels.
To this end, MEGA is planning to establish local agri-
hubs (under the management of secondary co-operatives) to
which small-scale farmers in primary cooperatives can supply

produce for further distribution. In this way, the MIFPM will
provide farmers with exposure to a much wider regional,
national, and, potentially, international market. nn
It is intended that part of the proceeds of the financing
will be applied to eligible payments under the contract
for consulting services for preparation of detailed concept
design and bidding documents, including a short period of
maintenance. The State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU),
on behalf of the Sokoto State Government, now invites eligible
consulting firms to indicate their interest in providing the
services. Interested consultants should provide information
demonstrating that they have the required qualifications and
relevant experience to perform the services. nn
Rehabilitation of 500km
of roads in Nigeria
Infrastructure roads
Sokoto State
Nigeria
Sokoto State in Nigeria has invited tenders for consultancy
services for detailed concept design; environmental and
social impact assessment; preparation of bidding documents;
and procurement support for the rehabilitation of 500km of
prioritised rural roads under design and build contracts. The
Sokoto State Government has signed an agreement with the
World Bank for the construction of the 500km of rural roads
across the state. The agreement covers different locations
spread across three zones.
The Aminu Waziri Tambuwal administration decided to
key into the World Bank’s Rural Access Mobility Project so
as to improve transport conditions, by opening up rural areas
in all parts of the state. The Federal Government of Nigeria,
through the Federal Ministry of Finance, has applied for
financing from the International Development Association
— the World Bank and French Development Agency — and
on-lent the financing to Sokoto State towards the cost of
rehabilitation of prioritised rural roads and river crossings,
construction/rehabilitation support for the establishment of
agri logistics hubs, and institutional development under the
Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project.
