The Civil Engineering Contractor May 2019 | Page 21

The impact on a construction project of a contractor going into business rescue, is devastating. On 19 June last year, Civil Engineering Contractor paid a site visit to and reported, in the October issue, of a 17-floor building rising at that time from its basement. We attached a caveat to that article that since that visit, contractor Liviero Building had gone into business rescue. The building was to provide student accommodation and was sited on prime land on the corner of Jorissen Street and Bertha Avenue in downtown Braamfontein, adjacent to the precinct of the University of the Witwatersrand. In March this year, we decided to pay another visit and see what the impact had been on the works. In June last year, work had been taking place in the basement; by March this year, it had progressed to the second floor (of 17). www.civilsonline.co.za CEC May 2019 | 19
